Julianna Smith
American mezzo-soprano Julianna Smith performed at the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where her roles included Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro, Meg Page in Falstaff and Siebel in Faust. She has also appeared as Hänsel in Hänsel und Gretel with Maryland Opera and Sesto in La clemenza di Tito with the City Choir of Washington. With Opera Neo, she sang Mitrena in Vivaldi’s Motezuma and the title role in Louise Bertin’s Fausto.
In 2026, Smith was a semifinalist in the Metropolitan Opera’s Laffont Competition in New York. She has also won prizes at the Gerda Lissner Song Competition, the Mildred Miller International Voice Competition and the Annapolis Opera Competition. She attended masterclasses with Renée Fleming and Joyce DiDonato, and appeared as Siegrune in Die Walküre alongside Greer Grimsley and Christine Goerke at the Aspen Music Festival. She also worked with Jake Heggie at a preview concert for his new opera Before It All Goes Dark.
Her upcoming engagements include participating as a finalist in the Corinne Winters Mentorship Project and appearing as an emerging artist at Sängerwettstreit Nr. 3 auf der Wartburg. Smith is a member of the Vienna State Opera’s Opera Studio.
