Join in

Joining in and being a part means jumping in, trying things out and discovering new things together - across generations.

Our participatory projects are places for encounters and discussions about opera, theater, dance and topics that concern us all! There is space here for your own creative practice and your ideas. You can gain insights behind the scenes, try your hand at improvisation and theater, develop dramaturgies and plays or become composersand choreographersyourself.

No special prior knowledge is required to take part, just the desire and courage to try something new in a group!

Children & Family

Nessun Dorma

Overnight at the Vienna State Opera.
The evening begins at NEST with creative workshops and leads over to the Vienna State Opera - with a night tour and an overnight stay on the rehearsal stage, where the great operas are usually produced. The next morning we return to NEST: together we visit the children's opera.
For children aged between 6 and 12 and their accompanying adults.

Intro: Workshops

The intro workshop for anyone who wants to experience opera and ballet from more than just the auditorium. Children, young adults and families engage creatively with the plot, themes, music or dance aesthetics of an opera or ballet and develop a personal approach to the work.
The age recommendation depends on the piece.

Building your own opera in under two hours? Challenge accepted! This family workshop is a fun way to develop your own mini-opera. No previous knowledge is required - just the desire, curiosity and courage to create something unique together.
For children and families aged 8 and over.

Tanzlabor Jung

Tanzlabor Jung involves dancing, acting and developing your own little choreography around a ballet from the Vienna State Ballet's repertoire. No special previous knowledge is required, but regular participation is desirable.
For children between the ages of 7 and 12.

Music theater club

In the music theater club, teenagers and young adults develop their own music theater piece in ten weeks. They discover which roles exist on stage and which professions work together behind the scenes to create an opera or a piece of musical theater.
For everyone between the ages of 10 and 15.

Can't get enough of opera or want to get to know the genre better in all its fascinating facets? At Inside Opera, we discuss works together every week, talk to artists and take a look behind the scenes.
For young adults aged between 15 and 26.

SHIMMER!

In SCHIMMER!, young adults aged 15-27 develop a site-specific performance based on the artistic research topic of "hope" over the course of a season, which will be staged at various public venues in April and May.

An open workshop series - with a look behind the scenes at the Vienna State Opera.
In an intergenerational format, we open our rehearsal stages and invite people of all ages to get to know artistic working methods, try them out and become active themselves.

Opera meets pop! Regularly our pop-up choir fills special places in Vienna with music and invites everyone who enjoys singing together. Whether you already have years of choir experience or want to sing with others for the first time - everyone is welcome.

A choir for everyone. And a musical ecosystem that combines opera, pop and performance in perfect symbiosis. Weekly rehearsals bring together people who want to sing together and rethink the choral genre.

CityLab

Your play on stage at NEST!
The CityLab ensemble experiments scenically and musically with Bartók's opera Bluebeard's Castle. Improvisations, scenes, music and choreographies flow into the music theater performance "alle außer sich", which is performed together with the stage orchestra of the Vienna State Opera at NEST.
For everyone between the ages of 12 and 112.

Workout at the opera

High Drama - Higher Pulse!
The ballet hall of the Vienna State Opera becomes a sports studio. During a live DJ set, opera melodies meet electronic beats, while a joint workout rehearses athletic movement sequences that merge into a choreography at the end.

A very special kind of poetry slam.
When young poets meet live music, something unique is created: based on the themes, motifs and characters of an opera work, new texts are developed and performed on stage.

Dance karaoke

Dance together for one night on the NEST stage! Dance karaoke is karaoke with and in motion. The audience chooses from various dance videos that are projected onto a screen, and the choreography is danced together on stage to the sound of a live DJ.
