Standard Tour

Discover the world’s largest repertory opera house and learn a great deal during a guided tour of the Vienna State Opera— that otherwise remains hidden from our audience members.

The approximately 40-minute guided tour offers fascinating insights into history, architecture, and the inner workings of the opera house. The tour begins in the foyer, proceeds up the grand staircase through the state rooms, and ends in the auditorium with a view of the stage.

Our tours are offered in German, English, French, Spanish, Italian, and Japanese. Tickets can be purchased online or on-site starting 30 minutes before the tour begins (subject to availability).

Children's Tour

Children love discovering new things and going on adventures: Our 90-minute children’s tour lets them playfully immerse themselves in the world of musical theater.

From the grand auditorium to the state rooms, they try on costumes, explore props, and learn about the various roles both on and behind the scenes. Fascinating insights into architecture and history round out the tour.

In addition, they’ll learn details and secrets about the architecture as well as the history of the State Opera.

For children ages 6–10, in German.

Private tour

With a private tour, you can enjoy an exclusive experience of the Vienna State Opera. Whether you’re alone, as a couple, or with up to 20 people—our guide is there just for you.

Step into our state rooms, the auditorium, the center box (with the best view of the stage), and the emperor’s former lounge: the tea room.

Learn all about the architecture and history of the building, as well as fascinating insights into everyday life on stage.

Discounts and Cancellations

Guests with a valid Niederösterreich-Card are entitled to one-time free admission to a standard guided tour – a reservation through our ticket shop is required.

When making a reservation, you must first add a full-price ticket to your shopping cart. During the payment process, you can then enter your Niederösterreich-Card promotional code. You received the promo code when you purchased your Niederösterreich-Card.

Please bring your Niederösterreich-Card with you to the tour so that it can be scanned before the tour begins.

Guests with a valid Vienna Pass are entitled to one-time free admission to a standard guided tour – a reservation through our ticket shop is required.

When making a reservation, you must first add a full-price ticket to your shopping cart. During the payment process, you can then enter your Vienna Pass promotional code. You received the promo code when you purchased your Vienna Pass.

Please bring your discount card with you to the tour, so that it can be scanned before the tour begins.

For guided tours, purchased tickets cannot be refunded or exchanged.

Arriving late is not grounds for an exchange.
