Technical management

We are looking for stage technicians (full-time) to strengthen our technical departments with immediate effect

Tasks:

  • Supervision of rehearsals and performances of musical theater productions
  • Set-up, conversion and dismantling of decorations for rehearsals and performances

Required training (or comparable qualification):

  • Completed vocational training in a woodworking profession or
  • Completed vocational training as a painter and coating technician or
  • Completed vocational training as an upholsterer/decorator
  • Completed vocational training in a metalworking profession

Requirements:

  • Technical understanding and manual dexterity
  • Absolute freedom from vertigo and a head for heights
  • Ability to work in a team, reliability and the ability to work under pressure
  • Willingness to work irregular hours (evenings, weekends, public holidays and split shifts)
  • As a male applicant: completed military or civilian service
  • Fundamental interest in musical theater and good manners
  • Very good knowledge of German
  • Willingness to work overtime and take part in guest performances abroad

To strengthen our Machinists/Displacement department, we are looking for the following with immediate effect

→ Stage technicians (f/m/d), full-time

The following tasks await you:
- Operation of the entire understage machinery as well as turntables, functional special constructions and curtains in the stage portal, during rehearsals and performances
- Maintenance and control of the technical stage equipment on the lower stage
- Operating hydraulic and pneumatic systems in decoration parts
- Screwing steel structures and stage elements to the floor and to mounted decorative elements
- Making and repairing stage props
- Designing performances: you enable the appearance and disappearance of people, props and stage sets by using lifting floors and lowering people
- Implementation of stage effects such as stage fog, steam, wind, foam and water

You should have the following qualities:
- Craftsmanship and technical understanding
- Completed apprenticeship as a metalworker, metal technicianor tinsmith is an advantage
- Workshop experience in a metalworking company
- Experience of working independently in a metalworking shop (cutting, drilling, bending, welding, etc.)
- High level of commitment
- Very good physical condition and resilience
- Absolutely no fear of heights and a head for heights
- Ability to work in a team, reliability and the ability to work under pressure
- Willingness to work irregular hours (evenings, weekends, public holidays and split shifts)
- As a male applicant: completed military or civilian service

Make-up artists

We are looking to strengthen our make-up department with immediate effect
→ Make-up artists - occasionally as temporary helpers

Tasks:

  • Supporting our make-up team during rehearsals and performances

  • Professional and role-appropriate make-up for stage and television according to artistic specifications
  • Professional and role-appropriate hairdressing and styling of hair according to artistic specifications
  • Professional application, adjustment, removal and cleaning of wigs, hairpieces, facial hair as well as bald heads, partially bald heads, plastic facial parts, wounds, etc.

 

Your profile:

  • Completed apprenticeship as a make-up artist or hairdresser and wig maker or

  • Training as a qualified make-up artist or make-up artist

  • Experience in theater, film or television is an advantage

  • High level of craftsmanship and creativity

  • Resilience and composure in stressful situations

  • Team spirit, sense of responsibility, reliability and enjoyment of working with artists

  • Willingness to work irregular hours (evenings, weekends, public holidays)

  • Very good knowledge of German

Remuneration is in accordance with the 1999 collective agreement for technical staff.
For one shift (4 to max. 6 hours) the pay is € 69.92 gross, on public holidays € 101.79 gross.
This is a daily, marginal employment that is subject to income tax, but is only covered by accident insurance.

Note: From January 1, 2026, marginal employment in addition to unemployment benefit is only permitted in a few exceptional cases.

Ballet

The Vienna State Ballet, a cooperation between the Vienna State Opera and the Volksoper Wien, is looking for a competent and committed

Employee in the area of sales marketing and friends organization

Part-time (35 h), temporary as a temporary replacement

 

Tasks:

  • Monitoring ticket sales, deriving sales-promoting measures and evaluation
  • Interface to marketing and sales of the Vienna State Opera and Volksoper Vienna
  • Contact person for customer data of the Vienna State Ballet
  • Implementation and ongoing development of the CRM system in collaboration with the other stage companies and Bundestheater-Holding
  • Further development of sales and communication channels (website, sales partners, social media)
  • Mailings: target group mailings, newsletters (editing, mailing), pre-show and post-show mailings
  • Interface between the Vienna State Opera, Volksoper Wien and the management of the Friends of the Vienna State Ballet
  • Organization and support of events, in particular of the Friends of the Vienna State Ballet in cooperation with various departments
  • Responsibility for the Circle of Friends website and jet ticket system
  • Correspondence with the members of the Circle of Friends

 

Requirements:

 

  • Completed studies in the field of culture/marketing/press (cultural studies, media studies, communication studies)
  • 1-3 years of professional experience in a cultural institution in the areas of marketing & sales
  • Interest in or experience with the art form ballet/dance is an advantage
  • Experience in journalism and editorial work is an advantage
  • High affinity for or experience with digital communication channels
  • Experience with Mailworx, CMS, Office 365, Jet-Ticket, Kulturplanner
  • Excellent German and English language skills
  • Independent, organized and structured way of working
  • Strong communication skills, creative thinking and interest in the cultural sector
  • Willingness to work evening and weekend events

 

The minimum salary according to the collective agreement is € 2,738.99 gross per month based on full-time employment. The salary range for this position is between € 3.300.- - 3.600.- gross per month (full-time/ 14x per year). The actual salary will be agreed in a personal interview depending on professional experience and qualifications.

To strengthen our team, we are looking, from August 26, 2026, for:

→ music teacher at the Vienna State Opera Ballet Academy 10-15 teaching units per week, each lasting 50 minutes 

 

Tasks:

  • Create and deliver a curriculum for students of the Ballet Academy which incorporates, at different levels, music and movement. Fundamentally, and at all levels, help students understand the relationship between music and dance
  • Creating written evaluations of students
  • Conducting feedback discussions with students
  • Daily recording of student attendance and class participation and regular written reports on the development of individual students
  • Adhering to and implementing child protection guidelines, including the Vienna State Opera's code of conduct and the Ballet Academy’s Staff Handbook

 

Prerequisite knowledge:

  • For the lower levels of students ages 10-14, incorporate techniques of Kodaly, Dalcrose eurhythmics, or other movement-based strategies
  • For the upper levels, ages 15-18, focus on the music of standard ballet repertoire, and teach rudimentary music theory so that students gain an understanding of structure of works, time signatures, dynamics, etc.  Develop in students an understanding of why different types of music are chosen for ballet class barre and center
  • For levels 7 and 8, the most advanced levels, focus on the repertoire of the Wiener Staatsballet’s current season and incorporate that music into the developed curriculum. 

 

 

Requirements:

  • Proven track record of working with children and young adults aged 10 to 18, and a strong dedication to the art form of dance
  • Minimum of 5 years teaching experience in a comparable position or institution
  • Completed pedagogical teacher training is desirable
  • A knowledge of ballet class structure is fundamental to success in the position
  • Willingness to participate in continuing education and training
  • Very good written and verbal communication skills in German and English; other foreign languages are an advantage
  • Good PC skills with MS Office, including Excel and Word
  • Open communication, ability to work in a team, and a willingness to learn are required
  • Personal commitment and interest in teaching children and young people aged 10 to 18
  • Ability to work under pressure, organizational skills, and confidence in handling feedback discussions
  • Exemplary demeanor, enthusiasm, and ability to motivate others
  • Ability to handle and keep confidential information 

 

Employment is contingent upon a successful clearance of a criminal background check as required by the Vienna State Opera. 

The admission process includes a trial lesson in the presence of the ballet director and the director of the ballet academy, as well as a personal interview.

Pay is based on the number of hours worked and the hourly wage specified in the collective agreement.
