For NEST, the new State Opera at the Künstlerhaus, we are currently seeking a
→ Staff Member/Project Manager for the Wardrobe/Costume Department (30–40 hours per week)

Responsibilities:

Artistic supervision of all productions at NEST:

• Serving as the liaison between the directing team, the costume department, Art for Art (workshops), and the wardrobe
• Supporting costume designers and directors in the implementation of costume designs (researching the costume collection, purchasing costume pieces, etc.)
• Coordinating costume presentations at Art for Art (workshops)
• Supervising wardrobe staff during premieres, cast changes, and revivals
• Artistic supervision of new costume creations and alterations for the repertoire
• Supporting all projects of the Education and Outreach Department
• Coordinating costume fittings
• Coordinating wardrobe staff for rehearsals, performances, and alterations (in consultation with the wardrobe manager)
• Coordination of costume transport

Rehearsal support for new productions:

• Providing rehearsal costumes
• Purchasing rehearsal costumes as needed
• Structuring performance-specific workflows and creating scenarios
• Training of wardrobe staff for costume rehearsals and performances

Requirements:

• Completed training in a relevant field (e.g., apprenticeship as a men’s/women’s tailor, college program in fashion and apparel technology, degree in costume design)
• Ideally, experience in costume design and project management in the cultural and events sector
• Interest in designing new workflows and establishing structures
• Manual dexterity and creativity
• High level of commitment, a strong sense of responsibility, and the ability to take initiative
• Ability to work in a team, attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to handle stress
• Willingness to work flexible hours (including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as well as split shifts)
• Good computer skills
• Very good German and good English skills

Makeup Artists

To strengthen our makeup department, we are currently looking for
→ Makeup Artists—on a temporary basis as part-time helpers

Responsibilities:

• Supporting our makeup team during rehearsals and performances

• Applying makeup for stage and television that is appropriate for the character and role, in accordance with artistic specifications
• Professional and role-appropriate hair styling and arrangement in accordance with artistic specifications
• Professional application, adjustment, removal, and cleaning of wigs, hairpieces, facial hair, as well as bald heads, partial baldness, prosthetic facial parts, wounds, etc.

Your Profile:

• Completed apprenticeship as a makeup artist or as a hairstylist and wigmaker, or

• Training as a certified makeup artist or certified makeup specialist

• Experience in theater, film, or television is a plus

• High level of technical skill and creativity

• Ability to handle pressure and remain calm in stressful situations

• Team spirit, a sense of responsibility, reliability, and a passion for collaborating with artists

• Willingness to work irregular hours (evenings, weekends, holidays)

• Very good command of German

→ Full-time Stage Technician/Lowering Operator (m/f/d)

Your responsibilities will include:

• Operating all under-stage machinery, as well as turntables, special functional structures, and curtains in the stage portal during rehearsals and performances
• Maintaining and inspecting the stage technology equipment in the understage area
• Operating hydraulic and pneumatic systems in set pieces
• Bolting steel structures and stage elements to the floor and to raised set pieces
• Fabricating and repairing stage props
• Designing stage entrances: These enable the appearance and disappearance of people, props, and set pieces through the use of rising floors and stage lifts
• Implementation of stage effects such as stage fog, smoke, wind, foam, and water

You possess the following qualities:

• Manual dexterity and technical understanding
• A completed apprenticeship as a metalworker, metal technician, or sheet metal worker is a plus
• Workshop experience in a metalworking facility
• Experience working independently in a metalworking shop (cutting, drilling, bending, welding, etc.)

• High level of commitment

• Excellent physical condition and ability to handle stress
