Piotr Stanczyk
Piotr Stanczyk trained at the State Ballet School of Poznan before continuing his studies at Canada’s National Ballet School. He joined The National Ballet of Canada in 1998 and was promoted to Principal Dancer in 2008. After 25 years there, he left the company and has been working internationally as a freelance ballet master, teacher and assistant choreographer since 2023.
His career has taken him to world-renowned stages, including Toronto, New York, Dresden, Washington, Miami, Montréal, Los Angeles, Moscow, San Francisco, Stuttgart, Vancouver, London, Paris, Vienna, Melbourne, Hamburg, Warsaw and Singapore.
Piotr Stanczyk’s repertoire includes, amongst others, leading roles in choreographies by Ronald Hynd, Nicholas Beriozoff, John Cranko, Rudolf Nureyev and Alexei Ratmansky. Piotr Stanczyk has also danced in numerous key works by choreographers such as George Balanchine, Sir Frederick Ashton, Sir Kenneth MacMillan, Jiří Kylián, Harald Lander, William Forsythe, Maurice Béjart, Wayne McGregor, Jerome Robbins, Twyla Tharp, Crystal Pite, Rudi van Dantzig, Kevin O’Day and Glen Tetley.
Piotr Stanczyk frequently stages creations by leading choreographers such as James Kudelka (The Nutcracker, Man in Black, Desir, Cinderella), John Neumeier (Nijinsky, Anna Karenina), Christopher Wheeldon (The Winter's Tale), and Anna Hop (Pinocchio, A Midsummer Night's Dream).
Throughout his career, Piotr Stanczyk received numerous awards, embracing the 2003 William Marrié Award for Dramatic Excellence, the Rolex Dancers First Award (2012 and 2016), Now Magazine's Toronto Dancer of the Year (2013), and a 2022 Dora Award nomination.
In the 2026/27 season, Piotr Stanczyk has been responsible for staging John Neumeier’s Nijinsky in Vienna.
