Giampaolo Bisanti
Born in Milan, Giampaolo Bisanti graduated with distinction from the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory. He has won prizes at international conducting competitions, including the renowned Georg Solti Competition. He first gained international recognition as a specialist in Italian verismo and the Verdi and bel canto repertoires. His repertoire has since expanded to include French, Russian (The Queen of Spades), Slavic (Rusalka) and German opera, including Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman and Tristan und Isolde.
From 2016 to 2021, Bisanti was principal conductor of the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari, Italy. Since 2022, he has been principal conductor of the Royal Opéra de Wallonie in Liège, Belgium.
His engagements have taken him to the Zurich Opera House, the Semperoper Dresden, Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Hamburg State Opera and the Bavarian State Opera. He has also conducted at the Teatro Liceu in Barcelona, the Opéra Bastille in Paris, the Théâtre Capitole de Toulouse, the Opéra de Monte-Carlo, the Teatro Regio in Turin, the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florence and the National Theatre Tokyo. In 2022, he made his debuts at La Scala in Milan and at the opera house in Seattle, his first engagement in the United States.
Bisanti made his Vienna State Opera debut in 2018 with Macbeth and has returned every season since.
