Andrea Giovannini
Andrea Giovannini graduated as an actor from the drama school in Bologna in 1990. After several years with theatre companies, he began studying singing in 1997 and appeared in several musical productions in Italy, including Jesus Christ Super Star, My Fair Lady and Evita.
He later made his debut as Danilo in Die lustige Witwe and, under the guidance of Claudio Desderi, developed his Mozart repertoire: numerous productions followed, with roles such as Don Ottavio, Basilio and Ferrando. Noteworthy is his participation in the historic production of Così fan tutte at the Piccolo Teatro in Milan under the direction of Giorgio Strehler.
Andrea Giovannini also specialised in the Rossini repertoire, including Conte d’Almaviva in Il barbiere di Siviglia at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo and Idreno in Semiramide at the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome. In 2007 he sang Fenton in Falstaff in London, Rodolfo in La Bohème in Dublin, and Alfredo in La traviata in Nuremberg, Dijon and at the Festival of Saint-Céré in France.
He has also interpreted the role of Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi in Modena, Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor in Dijon, Rodolfo and Tamino (Die Zauberflöte) in Massy, France, and Nemorino (L’elisir d’amore) with Opera Zuid.
Further appearances include Falstaff (Caius) in Sassari and Jesi, Manon Lescaut (Maestro di ballo) under Riccardo Muti in Rome, Die Liebe zu den drei Orangen at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Madama Butterfly (Goro) in Naples and Parma, La forza del destino (Trabuco) in Parma, Lucia di Lammermoor (Normanno) in Rome, Nabucco (Abdallo) in Cagliari, Norma (Flavio) in Turin, La rondine (Prunier) in Lucca, Pisa, Livorno, Modena and Ravenna, Manon Lescaut(Edmondo) at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, and Tosca (Spoletta) in Rome.
He has been a member of the ensemble of the Vienna State Opera since September 2020.
