Victor Cagnin
Victor Cagnin, born in Lyon in 2002, received his dance education at the Ballet Academy of Vienna State Opera, which he completed in 2021. He trained with teachers such as Vladimir Shishov, Lucian Nescea or Jed O'Grady Weiss. In 2019, he was awarded both the Karl Musil Prize of the Vienna International Arts Festival and 2nd place at the Youth America Grand Prix Paris.
With the 2021/22 season, Victor Cagnin took up his first engagement in the Corps de ballet of the Vienna State Ballet.
His previous performances include parts in Jerome Robbins' Glass Pieces, John Cranko's Onegin, Elena Tchernichova's Giselle, Rudolf Nureyev's Swan Lake, Frederick Ashton's La Fille mal gardée, Alexei Ratmansky's Kallirhoe, Roland Petit's Die Fledermaus, George Balanchine's Jewels (Emeralds 2nd Pas de deux), Visionary Dances (2nd movement in Heatscape by Justin Peck and Wayne McGregor's Yugen) as well as in works by Martin Schläpfer. Furthermore, he performed at the 68th Vienna Opera Ball in a choreography by Jessica Lang.
For his interpretation of Tadzio in Benjamin Brittan's Death in Venice (directed by Sir David McVicar) in May 2022 at the Volksoper Wien, Victor Cagnin was nominated as one of the »10 dancers with the best prospects« in the critics' poll in the 2022 yearbook of the renowned magazine tanz.
