The Vienna State Opera at the 2026 Film Festival on Rathausplatz

News |

At the film festival on Rathausplatz, you can enjoy a selection of opera and ballet performances on the big screen.

It has already become a lovely tradition for the Vienna State Opera to partner with the film festival at Vienna’s Rathausplatz during the summer months. This means that true opera enthusiasts don’t have to go without their opera fix even during the theater’s summer break. On “State Opera Sundays,” we screen selected opera and ballet productions—most featuring top-tier casts—on the big screen. The program is also complemented by occasional screenings of the Children’s Opera Festival on Friday afternoons.

For the first time this year, the film festival will conclude with a livedelayed broadcast of our “Opern-Air” concert from the Burggarten.
