On the death of Dame Felicity Lott
The House |
The celebrated British soprano, Dame Felicity Lott, died on May 15 at the age of 79. The fine, incredibly moving singer, who made her mark on international performance history particularly as an interpreter of Mozart and Strauss, was also heard many times at the Vienna State Opera in her signature role of the Marschallin in Der Rosenkavalier. In particular under Carlos Kleiber in that legendary series of performances in 1994, which is one of the absolute great moments in the history of the house and was fortunately immortalized by Austrian television.
A short time later, Lott also accompanied the Vienna State Opera in this role on a guest appearance in Japan, which also has a reputation for uniqueness to this day, not least due to her collaboration with Kleiber. Her elegance and noblesse, her musical intelligence and her warm-hearted human charisma made her the Marschallin par excellence. Her Capriccio Countess and her Arabella, which she also sang in several series at the Haus am Ring, were no less captivating and set new standards.
