Vittorio Grigolo
Vittorio Grigolo was born in Arezzo and grew up in Rome, where he trained at the Sistine Chapel. At the age of 13, he sang the Shepherd in Tosca at the Rome Opera, and at 17 he made his debut as a tenor. Shortly afterwards, he appeared as Don Narciso in Rossini’s Il turco in Italia at the Wiener Kammeroper.
In 2000, he performed under Riccardo Muti as part of the season opening at La Scala in Milan. He quickly established an international reputation, with a particular milestone being his 2010 debut at New York’s Metropolitan Opera as Rodolfo in La Bohème.
His repertoire encompasses the major works of the Italian and French operatic repertoire, including La traviata, Rigoletto, Don Carlo, Madama Butterfly, Anna Bolena, L’elisir d’amore, Lucia di Lammermoor, Faust, Roméo et Juliette, Manon, Les Contes d’Hoffmann, Werther, Carmen and Pagliacci.
His recent and current engagements include Turiddu (Munich), Don José (Berlin, Milan), Cavaradossi (Berlin), Roméo (Rome), Manrico (Madrid) and Faust (Milan).
He made his debut at the Vienna State Opera in 2013 and has since appeared there as Don José, Manrico, Nemorino, Rodolfo, Alfredo, Cavaradossi and Werther.
