Roberto Frontali

Roberto Frontali is considered as one of the most important baritones of his generation. He initially devoted himself to bel canto roles, later turning to the Verdi repertoire and, more recently, to Puccini and verismo. In the early 1990s, he made his debuts at New York’s Metropolitan Opera (L’elisir d’amore) and La Scala in Milan (Beatrice di Tenda).

His career has taken him to all the major international stages, including those in Vienna, Milan, New York, London, Paris, Rome, Hamburg, Florence, Munich, Palermo, Zurich, Berlin, Madrid, Tokyo, Venice, San Francisco and Naples.

His current and upcoming engagements include Jago (Otello) and Salvatore (Il nome della rosa) at La Scala in Milan, Michonnet (Adriana Lecouvreur) at the Palau de les Arts in Valencia, Don Pasquale at the Hamburg State Opera, Don Giovanni at the Caracalla Festival in Rome, Scarpia at La Fenice in Venice and the Teatro Regio in Turin, Fra Melitone (La forza del destino) at Zurich Opera House, and Giorgio Germont (La traviata) at the New National Theatre Tokyo and in Venice.

He made his Vienna State Opera debut in 1992 and has sung a wide-ranging repertoire there, including Carlo Gérard (Andrea Chénier), the title roles in Guillaume Tell, Rigoletto and Il barbiere di Siviglia, Conte di Luna (Il trovatore), Jack Rance (Fanciulla del West), Scarpia, Ankarström (Un ballo in maschera), Michonnet, Rodrigo (Don Carlo) and Enrico (Lucia di Lammermoor).
