Rachel Willis-Sørensen
The American soprano Rachel Willis-Sørensen studied at Brigham Young University and was a member of the Houston Grand Opera's opera studio. She won the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in 2010, the Hans Gábor Singing Competition in 2011 and the Operalia Competition in 2014. Before going freelance, she was a member of the Dresden Semperoper ensemble for three years, where she sang central roles such as Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Mimì (La Bohème), Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus), Elettra (Idomeneo) and Vitellia (La clemenza di Tito). Today, she is a celebrated guest at all the world's major opera houses and concert stages. In 2024/25 she made her Bulgarian debut in a gala concert in Sofia in the fall, sang at the Richard Tucker Gala in New York's Carnegie Hall and Rosalinde at the Bremen Music Festival. This was followed by Leonora (Il trovatore) at the Metropolitan Opera in New York - a role she is currently performing at two other venues: in February at the Vienna State Opera and in March at London's Royal Ballet and Opera House Covent Garden. She also made her house debut at the Teatro di San Carlo as Elisabetta (Don Carlo) and her house debut at the Philharmonie de Paris in a concert version of Verdi's La traviata. This is followed by her role and house debut as Norma at the Berlin State Opera, as well as Elisabetta and Elsa (Lohengrin) at the Bavarian State Opera. In August she sings Strauss' Vier letzte Lieder at the Lucerne Festival.
