Damiano Michieletto
The director Damiano Michieletto studied opera and theatre directing as well as literature in Milan and in Venice, his birthplace.
He won an Irish Times/ESB Theatre Award for his production of Jaromír Weinberger’s Schwanda, the Bagpiper at the Wexford Festival in 2003.
His career has taken him to all major centres of music theatre, including the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, the Salzburg Festival, Glyndebourne, the Maggio Musicale, the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in London, La Scala in Milan, Teatro La Fenice in Venice, as well as Berlin, Naples, Munich, Paris, Rome, Tokyo, Dresden, Barcelona, Madrid and Vienna.
Michieletto’s productions encompass works from the entire operatic repertoire, including operas by Mozart, Puccini, Verdi, Donizetti, Rossini, Strauss and Britten. His work also includes a film adaptation of Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi.
In Amsterdam, he was responsible for the world premiere of Alexander Raskatov’s Animal Farm — the co-production also marked his debut at the Vienna State Opera.
