Michael Gniffke
The German tenor Michael Gniffke found his way to opera via a business administration education before training as a classical singer at the Conservatory in Zurich, Switzerland.
His career has taken him to numerous renowned stages. Particularly noteworthy are his engagements at the Opéra National de Lyon, where he appeared in the world premiere of Alexander Raskatov’s opera GerMANIA and later performed the role of Christobald in Schreker’s Irrelohe.
In Dijon, France, he sang the Captain in Wozzeck and was a principal performer in the world premiere of Brice Pauset’s Kafka opera Strafen, for which several roles were specifically written for him. He was also a member of the Bayreuth Festival over several seasons.
His international career further includes appearances at Dutch National Opera Amsterdam and Finnish National Opera in Helsinki, where he performed in Animal Farm, as well as at the National Opera of Santiago de Chile, Chile, where he made his debut as Herod in Salome.
At the Vienna State Opera, Michael Gniffke has appeared as Snowball, Theophilus in Palestrina, and Basilio in Le nozze di Figaro. In addition, he is also active as a concert singer.
