Kathrin Zukowski

The German soprano Kathrin Zukowski has recently established herself with great success on international opera and concert stages. She has appeared at the Vienna State Opera as Ighino (Palestrina) under Christian Thielemann, Pamina (Die Zauberflöte) under Patrick Lange, and Marzelline (Fidelio) under Franz Welser-Möst; at the Berlin State Opera as the Woodbird (Siegfried) under Christian Thielemann; and at the Salzburg Festival as La Mort in Henze’s Das Floß der Medusa under Ingo Metzmacher and Sir Simon Rattle.

Following her return to the Salzburg Festival in summer 2026 in Henze’s Der Prinz von Homburg (Natalie von Oranien), the 2026/27 season includes her role debut as Adele (Die Fledermaus) as well as Pamina and Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro) at Zurich Opera. With the company, she will also appear as Woglinde/Woodbird on the Ring of the Nibelung tour, marking her debuts at the Philharmonie in Paris and Carnegie Hall in New York. In June 2026, she returns to the Vienna State Opera as Susanna, a house with which she will remain closely associated.

In recent years, she was a member of the ensemble at Oper Köln, where her roles included Pamina, Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), Micaëla (Carmen), the Infanta (Der Zwerg), Cleopatra (Giulio Cesare in Egitto), Adina (L'elisir d'amore), Ilia (Idomeneo), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Konstanze (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), the title role in Lucia di Lammermoor, as well as E (Eurydike) in the world premiere of Ondřej Adámek’s Ines and Gabriel in the staged new production of Haydn’s Die Schöpfung. In 2026, she also appeared in new productions of Le nozze di Figaro (Susanna) and Tancredi (Amenaide).

Her concert engagements in 2026 include New Year’s concerts with the Lower Austrian Tonkünstler Orchestra (including at the Vienna Musikverein), Mendelssohn Bartholdy’s Ein Sommernachtstraum with the WDR Symphony Orchestra under Marie Jacquot, and works by Handel with Bach Consort Wien under Rubén Dubrovsky at the Vienna Musikverein.

After studying instrumental pedagogy (guitar), she pursued vocal studies at the University of Music in Detmold and at the August Everding Theatre Academy in Munich with Lars Woldt. She is the recipient of the Special Prize for Best Singer at the International Opera Competition Giangiacomo Guelfi in Bolzano and a two-time scholarship holder of the Hasse Society.

She sang Arbace in Hasse’s Artaserse at the reopening of the Margravial Opera House in Bayreuth.
