Julia Kleiter

Soprano Julia Kleiter, who hails from Limburg, studied in Hamburg and Cologne. In 2004, she made her debut at the Opéra Bastille in Paris as Pamina, a role she went on to perform in numerous productions over the following ten years in Madrid, Zurich, at New York’s Metropolitan Opera, in Munich and at the Salzburg Festival.

At the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and La Scala in Milan, she sang the Countess in Le nozze di Figaro. At La Scala she also appeared as Agathe in Der Freischütz and Ilia in Idomeneo. Further highlights of recent years include Donna Anna at the Hamburg State Opera and the Elbphilharmonie, as well as Eva in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg in Berlin, Paris and Dresden.

In the 2022/23 season, Julia Kleiter made her role debut as the Marschallin in Der Rosenkavalier in Brussels and returned to the Bavarian State Opera as Agathe and to the Semperoper Dresden as the Countess. The 2023/24 season takes her to the Opéra national de Paris as Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, to the Semperoper Dresden as the Countess in Le nozze di Figaro, and finally to the Berlin and Vienna State Operas, where she once again appears as the Marschallin in Der Rosenkavalier.

On the concert platform, Julia Kleiter can be heard at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, the Vienna Musikverein and in Stockholm. Renowned for her distinctive interpretations of the Lied repertoire, she is a regular guest at London’s Wigmore Hall, the Schubertiades in Schwarzenberg and Vilabertran, Spain, and the Heidelberger Frühling.

For Christian Gerhaher’s extensive project devoted to the songs of Hugo Wolf, she was his soprano partner in the Spanisches Liederbuch, performing in Heidelberg, London, Madrid and Munich as well as at the Salzburg Festival.

Numerous CDs and DVDs document her artistic work, including her recording of songs by Franz Liszt with Julius Drake at the piano, released by Hyperion in 2020. She also plays an important part in Sony’s complete Schumann recording, accompanied at the piano by Gerold Huber.
