Florian Boesch

Austrian baritone Florian Boesch is regarded as one of the leading Lied interpreters of our time and has appeared in all the major concert halls of Europe and North America. He has served as Artist in Residence at the Wiener Konzerthaus, Teatro de la Zarzuela, Theater an der Wien, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, and Wigmore Hall.

Florian Boesch enjoyed a close artistic collaboration with Nikolaus Harnoncourt. He also works with conductors including Giovanni Antonini, Adam Fischer, Iván Fischer, Philippe Herreweghe, Pablo Heras-Casado, Vladimir Jurowski, Sir Simon Rattle, and Franz Welser-Möst.

On the operatic stage, he is acclaimed as an outstanding singing actor, with appearances at venues including Theater an der Wien, Semperoper Dresden, Dutch National Opera Amsterdam, Berlin State Opera, and the Vienna State Opera, where he made his debut in 2022 in Von der Liebe Tod and returns in autumn 2026 as Bluebeard in Bartók’s Bluebeard’s Castle. His debut as Duke Bluebeard at the Erl Festival and the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino attracted particular attention.

Further highlights of the 2026/27 season include a staged production of Bach’s St John Passion at Dutch National Opera, tours of Bach’s St Matthew Passion with Concentus Musicus and Collegium Vocale Gent, as well as numerous recitals throughout Europe.
