Tasks
Creation of photographic material for use in press relations, public relations and for all print and online purposes and documentation purposes of the house in close coordination with the press, dramaturgy and marketing departments
- Production photography during performances (repertoire, premieres, revivals, etc.) at the Vienna State Opera and at NEST
- Photographic accompaniment of rehearsals and concept discussions at the Vienna State Opera and NEST
- Occasional assumption of photographic services in the ballet department in the absence or unavailability of the responsible ballet photographer
- Creation of portrait photos
- Carrying out photo shoots, e.g. with participants in premiere productions, for the State Opera monthly magazine Opernring 2 and other purposes (press, online)
- Taking photos for technical production purposes (e.g. use in stage sets, video, projections or printed materials)
- Documentation of events, press appointments and press conferences
- Photography for the Vienna Opera Ball
- Architectural photography and photographic documentation of the premises of the opera house (Vienna State Opera & NEST)
- Care, maintenance and independent organization of service and repair of photographic equipment as well as ensuring the operational readiness of the equipment
- Digital image processing and provision of photographic material for the press, publications and digital media
- Management, indexing and maintenance of the digital photo archive
Job requirements
- Completed training or studies in the field of photography or a comparable qualification
- Several years of demonstrable professional experience in theater or stage photography is required
- Extensive experience in portrait, documentary and architectural photography
- Confident handling of professional camera and image processing technology
- Willingness to undergo continuous professional training and to familiarize yourself with new photographic and digital techniques
- Experience with digital image management and archive systems is an advantage
- Good knowledge of the work processes in a theater or opera company is an advantage
- High degree of flexibility and willingness to work irregular hours
(work mainly in the evenings, including weekends and public holidays, depending on the performance and rehearsal schedule) - Willingness to work at short notice and change appointments, especially in the event of recasts or additional rehearsal or press appointments
- Independent, structured and reliable way of working as well as the ability to process photo material quickly, even under time pressure, and provide it on time
- Ability to work in a team, under pressure and discreetly in an artistic environment
- Comprehensive granting of rights to the photographs taken to the Vienna State Opera
- Availability during the season from September to June. Vacation leave is to be taken primarily during the theater vacations, i.e. in July and August
The minimum salary according to the collective agreement is € 2,738.99 gross per month based on full-time employment. The salary range for this position is between € 3.600.- - 4.100.- gross per month (full-time/ 14x per year) incl. granting of rights. The actual salary will be agreed in a personal interview depending on professional experience and qualifications.

Technical management
We are looking for stage technicians (full-time) to strengthen our technical departments with immediate effect
Tasks:
- Supervision of rehearsals and performances of musical theater productions
- Set-up, conversion and dismantling of decorations for rehearsals and performances
Required training (or comparable qualification):
- Completed vocational training in a woodworking profession or
- Completed vocational training as a painter and coating technician or
- Completed vocational training as an upholsterer/decorator
- Completed vocational training in a metalworking profession

To strengthen our Machinists/Displacement department, we are looking for the following with immediate effect
→ Stage technicians (f/m/d), full-time
The following tasks await you:
- Operation of the entire understage machinery as well as turntables, functional special constructions and curtains in the stage portal, during rehearsals and performances
- Maintenance and control of the technical stage equipment on the lower stage
- Operating hydraulic and pneumatic systems in decoration parts
- Screwing steel structures and stage elements to the floor and to mounted decorative elements
- Making and repairing stage props
- Designing performances: you enable the appearance and disappearance of people, props and stage sets by using lifting floors and lowering people
- Implementation of stage effects such as stage fog, steam, wind, foam and water
You should have the following qualities:
- Craftsmanship and technical understanding
- Completed apprenticeship as a metalworker, metal technicianor tinsmith is an advantage
- Workshop experience in a metalworking company
- Experience of working independently in a metalworking shop (cutting, drilling, bending, welding, etc.)

To strengthen our team we are looking from August 26, 2026 for a
→ Music teacher at the Ballet Academy of the Vienna State Opera for 10-15 lessons per week of 50 min each
Tasks:
- Develop and implement a curriculum for the students of the Ballet Academy that incorporates music and movement at different levels. Support students at all levels in understanding the relationship between music and dance.
- Conducting performance assessments and creating written evaluations of students
- Conducting feedback sessions with students and their parents or guardians
- Daily recording of pupils' attendance and participation in lessons as well as regular written reports on the development of individual pupils
- Compliance with and implementation of applicable child protection regulations, in particular the guidelines of the Vienna State Opera on child welfare and the Code of Conduct of the Vienna State Opera as well as the Ballet Academy's employee handbook
Knowledge to be brought along:
- For the lower level (ages 10 to 14), methods such as the Kodály Method, Dalcroze Eurhythmics or other movement-based teaching methods should be used
- For the upper level (ages 15-18), the focus is on music from the classical ballet repertoire and teaching basic music theory so that students develop an understanding of the structure of the works, time signatures, dynamics, etc. It also teaches why different pieces of music are chosen for barre and center ballet classes
- For the most advanced classes (7 and 8), the focus is on the repertoire of the current season of the Vienna State Ballet, whose music is integrated into the developed curriculum
Requirements:

- Regular instruction in ballet’s secondary subjects for all age groups and depending on qualifications, including jumps, pas de deux, repertoire, as well as instruction and coaching for the Ballet Academy’s youth company
- Coaching and mentoring students for auditions and performances
- Creating written evaluations of students
- Conducting feedback discussions with students and their parents or legal guardians.
- Regular participation in teacher meetings, health and wellness workshops, and professional teacher development workshops.
- Daily recording of student attendance and class participation and regular written reports on the development of individual students
- Adhering to and implementing child protection guidelines, including the Vienna State Opera's code of conduct and the Ballet Academy’s Staff Handbook
Requirements:
- Proven track record of working with children and young adults aged 10 to 18, and a strong dedication to the art form of dance
- Minimum of 7 years’ teaching experience in a comparable position or institution
- Completed pedagogical teacher training is desirable
- At least 5 years of relevant professional experience as a professional dancer in a ballet company or other internationally recognized institution
- General knowledge of classical and contemporary ballet repertoire
- Willingness to participate in continuing education and training
