Nanette Glushak

Nanette Glushak, born in New York, was trained at the School of American Ballet. At the age of 16, George Balanchine engaged her to the New York City Ballet. In 1970 she moved as first soloist to the American Ballet Theater, where she was seen in numerous leading roles by Balanchine, Frederick Ashton, Antony Tudor, Jerome Robbins, Merce Cunningham, Roland Petit, Glen Tetley, Kenneth MacMillan, Alvin Ailey, Paul Taylor, Rudi van Dantzig, Rudolf Nureyev, Natalia Makarova, John Neumeier and Twyla Tharp. In 1983 she was nominated Co-Director of the Forth Worth Ballet in Texas. In 1989/1990 she was artistic director of the Scottish Ballet, from 1994 to 2012 she directed the Ballet du Capitole de Toulouse, where she also presented her own adaptations of classical ballets. 

Since 1987, as a member of the George Balanchine Trust, she stages Balanchine’s ballets with leading European companies. At the Vienna State Opera, she was responsible for the stagings of Theme and Variations in 1998, Apollo in 2005, Rubies from Jewels in 2010, 2019 and again in the 2025/26 season, as well as Allegro Brillante in 2014. In addition to the maintenance of the Balanchine repertoire, Nanette Glushak brings classical works with numerous companies on stage and works as a guest trainer in Europe and Japan.
