Michele Mariotti
Michele Mariotti has been Music Director of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma since 2022. He has been awarded the 36th Abbiati Prize as Best Conductor and is regularly invited by the most important Italian and international institutions, including La Scala in Milan, the Vienna State Opera, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Salzburg Festival, the Paris Opéra, the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, in London, the Bavarian State Opera, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, the Verdi Festival in Parma, the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Los Angeles Opera, the Wexford Festival, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, and the Teatro Real in Madrid.
From 2008 to 2018, he served as Chief Conductor and Music Director of the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, also leading the orchestra and chorus of the Teatro Comunale di Bologna on tours throughout Italy as well as to Tokyo, Moscow, and Paris.
Among his recent successes are new productions of Il barbiere di Siviglia and Norma at the Vienna State Opera, Moïse et Pharaon at the Aix-en-Provence Festival, Maometto II and Otello at the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, Macbeth at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia, La Bohème at the Paris Opéra, Guillaume Tell at La Scala, Ermione at the Rossini Opera Festival, as well as Dialogues des Carmélites, Aida, Boito’s Mefistofele, Tosca, Trittico Ricomposto, Peter Grimes, and Simon Boccanegra at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. Further highlights include West Side Story at the Baths of Caracalla in Rome and a tour to Japan with the chorus and orchestra of the Rome Opera.
In the 2025/26 season, he will conduct symphonic concerts in Italy and across Europe, including engagements with the RAI National Symphony Orchestra, the George Enescu Philharmonic, the Filarmonica della Scala, and the Haydn Orchestra—with which he is launching a three-year project—and will appear at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples. In addition, he will conduct Aida at the Paris Opéra and Luisa Miller at the Vienna State Opera.
Michele Mariotti completed studies in the humanities and earned a diploma in composition at the Rossini Conservatory in his hometown of Pesaro, where he also studied conducting. At the same time, he obtained a diploma in conducting from the Accademia Musicale Pescarese.
