Giorgio Berrugi

Giorgio Berrugi, named by Plácido Domingo as one of his successors, is among the most sought-after tenors of his generation. In 2007 he began his vocal studies and, after only a few months, made his debut as Rodolfo in La bohème at Teatro La Fenice in Venice.

From 2010 to 2013 he was a member of the ensemble of the Semperoper Dresden, where he performed many major roles, including Don José in Carmen, Riccardo in Un ballo in maschera, Cavaradossi in Tosca, Nemorino in L’elisir d’amore, the Duke in Rigoletto, and Gennaro in the world premiere of Gisela! by Hans Werner Henze.

Before becoming a singer, he completed his clarinet studies with distinction and served for five years as principal clarinet of the Orchestra Sinfonica di Roma.

As a singer, he has appeared at the world’s leading opera houses and music festivals, including La Scala in Milan, the Royal Opera House in London, Lincoln Center in New York, the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, the Opéra Bastille and the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Rome Opera, San Francisco Opera, the Liceu in Barcelona, the Opéra de Monte-Carlo, the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Suntory Hall in Tokyo, Wigmore Hall in London, and the Arena di Verona.

His recent engagements include Remigio da Varagine in the world premiere of Filidei’s Il nome della rosa at La Scala in Milan, the title role in Les Contes d’Hoffmann at the Latvian National Opera in Riga, Rodolfo in Luisa Miller at Hamburg State Opera, Madama Butterfly in Las Palmas and at the Berlin State Opera, Adriana Lecouvreur at the Paris Opéra, Siegmund in Die Walküre at the Vienna State Opera, Cavalleria rusticana at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, Tosca in Turin, and Fedora in Frankfurt.

Engagements in the 2025/26 season include Nabucco at the Savonlinna Festival, Tosca in Modena, Ferrara and Genoa, Nabucco at La Scala in Milan, as well as numerous concerts.
