Kurt Mitterfellner was born in Germany in 2004 to Russian and Austrian parents and moved to Switzerland at a young age, where he grew up. At the age of five he began playing the piano before turning to the violin, an instrument that initially seemed considerably more challenging to him than the piano.
At the age of ten he was admitted to the Conservatory of Lausanne in Switzerland, where his passion for the violin grew significantly. He has taken part in several competitions, including the Swiss Youth Music Competition (CSMJ), where he won two first prizes, as well as the Concours Salieri in Italy and the Concours Riviera in Vevey, Switzerland, where he also received first prizes.
Since 2023 he has served as concertmaster of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra, based in Vienna, an ensemble that brings together talented young musicians from across Europe. This experience has enabled him to perform under the baton of renowned conductors in some of Europe’s most prestigious concert halls, including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Salzburg Festival, the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, the Vienna Musikverein and the Konzerthaus Berlin.
Kurt Mitterfellner received his Bachelor’s degree from the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne (HEMU) in the class of Renaud Capuçon and François Sochard and is continuing his studies at the Zurich University of the Arts in the class of Alexander Sitkovetsky.
