The Korean countertenor Yongbeom Kwon began his musical training at the age of 18 with a focus on church music. He studied voice at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK) with Prof. Maria José Montiel and Prof. Deborah York, where he is currently completing his master’s degree.
In 2022, he made his debut at the Baroque festival “Winter in Schwetzingen.” In 2024, he celebrated his successful operatic debut as David in Handel’s Saul at the Theater Koblenz, where he was praised for his “exceptionally beautiful and expressive voice.”
In 2025, Kwon was awarded both the Third Prize and the Audience Prize at the inaugural Farinelli Competition for Countertenors at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe.
On the concert and oratorio stage, Yongbeom Kwon has appeared as a soloist at the Berlin Philharmonie with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin under Robin Ticciati, with the Baltimore Choral Arts Society, and with Ensemble Crescere. His upcoming engagements include Bach’s B minor Mass at the Konzerthaus Berlin, a tour of the Netherlands with the St Matthew Passion alongside Bachkoor Holland and B’Rock Orchestra under the direction of Gijs Leenaars, as well as his debut at the French festival La Via Musica with Scarlatti’s Salve Regina and Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater.
In 2025, he also sang the world premiere of Enjott Schneider’s oratorio KABBALA in Speyer, Worms, and Mainz.
